Hi everyone,
Sorry for the delay, but want to send out a long overdue thank you to everyone who was a part of the 4th annual Matthew Peebles Memorial Bowling Tournament back on May 7th. As always it’s so great to see so many of Matt’s friends and family out celebrating the life of the guy we all so dearly miss.
We would particularly like to thank all of the volunteers who pitched in to help the event run so smoothly, we couldn’t make it happen without you! We would also like to sincerely thank everyone who donated prizes, contributed to, and who sponsored the event. It was also great to have Randy and Claudia from our new charitable cause - Their Opportunity – and a team of kids benefiting from the funds we raise take part in this years tournament. Matt would be proud to see so much good coming from this event in his memory.
This year’s event featured over 80 bowlers and brought in $4000 for Their Opportunity! Their Opportunity will be putting these funds to good use by helping to provide access to local sport programs for kids from low-income families. Their goal is to “reach kids before they need to be rescued” and they aim to engage kids as community ambassadors for hope, generosity and change. Kids benefiting from the program are mandated to “pay it forward” through Their Opportunity’s “give-back” program where the children must perform some sort of community service. We’re very excited to be contributing towards such an important and beneficial cause.
This event is all about fun, but there were clearly more than a few strikes and spares thrown. It came down to the wire, but we’d like to congratulate “The Try Hards” on winning the Peebs Cup!
The standings were as follows:
1st: The Try Hards – Cam Dailey, Nicholas Lymer and Brent Mackay
2nd: Dirty Mike & the Boys – Michael Jones, Steve Horslin, Robin Earl
3rd: The Alley Lions - Devon Retzer, Brendan Hardy and David Williams
Most Valuable Bowler (MVB): Brent Mackay
As always – we also really enjoyed all of the enthusiasm and hilarious team themes and costumes! Pictures from this year’s event can be found by clicking here or on the MPMBT facebook page.
***Important announcement***:
We’ve now been running this great event for 4 years and we have made the decision to cap it at a 5-year memorial event. Next year’s event will be the last in this format and in future years we will likely move to a more informal annual gathering in Matt’s memory. With that in mind, let’s gear up for one last big year at the lanes. Spread the word, leave a spot in your calendars (early May), and let’s aim to make the 5th and final year of the event a special one.
Hopefully see everyone at the lanes in 2017. Here’s to Peebs!
