Hi everyone,
As most of you are aware, this year’s edition of the Matthew Peebles Memorial Bowling Tournament was the 5th and final year that the event will be running in this format – and thanks to everyone who was a part of it – we sent it out in style!
We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has come out and been a part of the event over the years. It’s been so great to see so many of Matt’s friends and family out celebrating the life of the guy we all so dearly miss.
We would also really like to thank all of the volunteers who have pitched in to help put on such a fun and well-run day at the lanes! We couldn’t make it happen without you! We would also like to sincerely thank everyone who donated prizes, contributed to, and who sponsored the event. It was also great to again have Randy from Their Opportunity – and a team of kids benefiting from the funds we raise - take part in this year’s tournament.
This year’s event featured over 85 bowlers and brought in $3500 for Their Opportunity! Their Opportunity will be putting these funds to good use by helping to provide access to local sport programs for kids from low-income families. We’re very excited to again be contributing towards such an important and beneficial cause.
This year’s event has also funded a bursary at Matt’s old highschool, the R. H. King Academy in Toronto, ON.
Thanks to everyone’s participation and generosity over the years – in total the event has contributed over $17000 to the causes we’ve chosen to support. It’s great to know that Matt’s legacy not only lives on through all of us who knew him, but also through all those benefitting from the funds raised in his legacy!
As always, this event was all about fun – but that’s not to say there wasn’t some incredible scores put up at the lanes. We’d like to again congratulate the Alley Lions on their 3rd Peebs Cup win, cementing their legacy as the top team to have played in the tournament through it’s history!
The standings were as follows:
1st: The Alley Lions - Devon Retzer, Brendan Hardy and David Williams
2nd: The Big LeBroskis – Connor Peebles, Corey McNalley and Jesse McNalley
3rd: The Try Hards – Cam Dailey, Nicholas Lymer and Brent Mackay
Most Valuable Bowler (MVB): David Williams
Best Dressed: The Gutterball Grannies – Jessica Peden, Carley Williamson and Christina Carinci
Most Enthusiastic: The SuperBowlers – Fraser Jackson, Stephen Bush and Gareth Hughes
Gutt’er Done Award: Nicola Shortt, Ivory van Veen and Andrea Thompson
As always – we also really enjoyed all of the enthusiasm and hilarious team themes and costumes! Pictures from this year’s event can be found by clicking here or on the MPMBT facebook page.
Lastly, while this was the last year of the Matt Peebles Memorial Bowling Tournament in this format - stayed tuned for other potential future events in Matt’s memory.
Here’s to Peebs!
